Covering an area of 2,000 square meters and featuring over 300 shades of colour, the mural fills the entire facade of ESR Australia’s distribution centre along the Princes Highway in Laverton, Victoria. Its shifting colour gradients interact with the motion of passing motorists, creating a dynamic and ephemeral experience that reflects the energy and vibrancy of the city.

The jury said, “Refreshing and stimulating, this work transforms a large-scale built form into an opportunity for visual engagement. Where many large buildings and warehouses are constructed with little colour or character, this project demonstrates how, through a vibrant spectrum of complementary colours and a composition that creates a strong sense of movement, thoughtful design can bring energy and beauty to otherwise utilitarian surroundings.

The result is a striking intervention that turns scale into an asset, delivering colour, vitality and everyday pleasure to the wider community.”

Collaborating with Cultural Capital, who worked on the curatorial plan, Tilt supported the project through turning Drez’s artistic vision into full-scale reality. Providing initial consultancy to guide the artist brief, Tilt project managed the work through to completion. Tilt translated the conceptual artwork to scale, using industrial design methodology to preserve its integrity, while overseeing the installation, and managing the commercial deliverables of administration, procurement and site planning, to ensure a seamless, efficient outcome.

The team included curators, Cultural Capital, who developed the public art plan, and together with Tilt, helped to bring Drez’s artistic vision to life. Tilt provided early consultancy to guide the artist’s brief and then managed the project through to completion. Drez’s conceptual artwork was scaled using Tilt’s industrial design methodologies to maintain its integrity, while overseeing the installation process. Tilt managed the commercial aspects, including administration, procurement, and site planning, to ensure a seamless and efficient outcome.
