A vibrant celebration of light, inspired by the interplay of colour between sky and water at Melbourne’s Docklands.
Illuminating the walkways of The Marker in West Melbourne, Sky Shimmers infuses light and colour into everyday moments for residents and passersby. This multi-site installation transforms a stairwell and outdoor corridor into an ephemeral canvas of LED neon light and reflection. Inspired by the changing sky as it transitions from day to night — glowing with vivid reds, oranges, pinks, and golds — the work captures a symphony of colour in constant motion.
Sky Shimmers marks the third collaboration between Tilt Industrial Design and light artist Meagan Streader. Engaged to support Meagan through the design development phase, Tilt played a key role in bringing her vision to life — managing every stage from structural engineering and wind certification to fabrication and installation.
The team’s end-to-end involvement ensured the final work stayed true to Meagan’s artistic intent while meeting the technical demands of the site. Reflecting her innovative approach, Meagan designed the piece using a modular system of overlapping acrylic panels, allowing the artwork to adapt seamlessly to its architectural setting.
Sky Shimmers transforms with the rhythm of day and night, capturing the culture and vibrancy of West Melbourne. Through its dynamic LED forms, viewers are immersed in Meagan’s world of colour and light. Visible from the street, the artwork extends beyond The Marker — offering amenity and a moment of connection for passersby.

This is the third project I have commissioned Tilt to manage the design, fabrication and installation. I wanted to work with Tilt again for this commission because I trusted they understood my artistic language and could translate my vision seamlessly into the design of the artwork. After three successful collaborations, I value Tilt’s technical expertise and their ability to realise complex installations. I’m very happy with the outcome of Sky Shimmers!
